TIA Yukon Statement RE: Haines, Alaska State of Emergency

Whitehorse:  Haines, Alaska is currently in a state of emergency after intense rainfall triggered several devastating mudslides that swept away houses and roads in the region. As a longtime partner and friend of Haines, the Tourism Industry Association of Yukon is deeply concerned by this disaster and is committed to helping get Haines back on its feet.

“We share a strong connection with Haines, not only as an organization, but as Yukoners,” says TIA Yukon Executive Director Blake Rogers. “The international border closures have kept us apart these past few months, but Yukoners share a bond with our Alaskan neighbours and know well the kindness and openness with which we have always been greeted in Haines. The people of Haines continue to generously share their mountains, ocean, and town with the Yukon and those who visit our region. Over the years they have graciously welcomed Yukon artists, fishing enthusiasts, beer fest participants, tourism conference attendees, Haines to Haines Relay teams, and so many others. We are asking Yukoners to remember this in Haines’s time of need and to consider giving a little back to the town that has given so much to us.”

If you have the means, please consider donating to the Haines, Alaska Relief Fund which can be found here
