The federal government has extended the suspension of the federal fuel excise tax until the new year, covering gasoline, diesel and aviation fuels.
For Yukon’s tourism industry, the extension is particularly relevant given the distances involved in travelling to and throughout the territory. Transportation costs affect every part of the visitor economy — from air access and highway travel to tour operations and the movement of goods and supplies.
The Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC), our national tourism industry association and advocacy partner, has welcomed the extension as a recent federal industry win. TIA Yukon works closely with TIAC to ensure Yukon perspectives are connected to tourism advocacy at the national level.
The extension provides some continued relief as Yukon tourism businesses move through the fall and shoulder season, while helping address the broader affordability of travel.
TIA Yukon welcomes measures that help reduce transportation costs and support accessible travel to and within the Yukon.
