Business with Purpose: Yukon Spa Earns B Corp Certification

Yukon Spa in Dawson City has become a certified B Corporation, making it only the second Yukon company to achieve the international certification.

B Corp certification recognizes businesses that meet standards for social and environmental impact, accountability and transparency. Businesses are assessed across five areas: governance, workers, community, environment and customers.

For Yukon Spa, the certification reflects a business model that has been built around a broader vision: increasing the health of the Klondike.

That takes several forms. Employees share in profits and have ownership in the company. Yukon Spa provides clinical care, massage therapy, physiotherapy and other health services in a remote community where access to healthcare can be limited. The business also supports local arts and culture, provides accessible food options, and directs all tips to Klondike charities.

“B Corp certification means someone checked and keeps us accountable to this vision,” Yukon Spa shared in announcing the certification.

Achieving the certification took approximately five months and involved an independent assessment of the company’s practices and impact.

Yukon Spa now joins a global community of B Corps — and demonstrates how a Yukon tourism and hospitality business can think about its role beyond the visitor experience alone.

For businesses in smaller communities, the lines between tourism, community wellbeing, employment and local services are often closely connected. Yukon Spa’s certification provides one example of a business intentionally building those connections into how it operates.

Congratulations to the Yukon Spa team on reaching this milestone.
