Minister’s Message to Museums Assistance and Arts Funding
Many of you will have heard the Premier’s announcement yesterday about the importance of the Arts and Culture sectors to Yukon and Yukoners, and the need to support these sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This support will take the following forms:
- Recipients of arts funding programs
We do not want to see artists and organizations – who in good faith are trying to carry out their funded projects – facing significant financial hardship as a result of the pandemic. Where funds have been expended, but deliverables have not been realized due to pandemic-related impacts, these costs will be recoverable under Tourism and Culture Transfer Payment Agreements.
Core funded organizations will not be required to have replacement programming for events or activities that are delayed, changed or cancelled due to the pandemic. Core funded organizations should include an explanation of how the pandemic impacted their programming and activities when reporting.
- Cultural centres and museums
Transfer Payment Agreements will continue to be payable in full, even where institutions deem it necessary to reduce services or close in response to the pandemic.
These announcements will no doubt lead to many questions about specifics and details. Please contact your fund administrator with any questions. However, we may not be in a position to fully answer all of your questions right away. Questions that we cannot immediately answer will be collected and we will provide a full response as soon as we can.
As with much related to this pandemic, we are responding to circumstances in real time. Rest assured that our intent is to support the vital role you play in Yukon society, to the greatest extent possible.
I want to assure this message is circulated right away, with details to follow as they are developed.
Thank you for your patience, and the vital contribution you make to Yukon’s quality of life.
