Goals

As our AGM was the end of April, TIA Yukon is the in the midst of Board development and orientation, determining priorities for the year, setting budgets and workplans and more.  A compendium of the work of TIA Yukon is attached here (538KB PDF), and we will update this section to 2007 as soon as the Board concludes association prioirities for 2007-08.

In the meantime, TIA Yukon is currently facilitating the Yukon Tourism Industry Analysis and Business Plan - to conclude an industry-led business plan, built by the Yukon tourism industry and partnered with government and reviewed by our nations tourism industry development leaders. This plan will guide the future work and priorities of the association to 2012.

From last year's mandate, TIA Yukon continues to champion a few programs:

Yukon Occupancy Data Collection - in it's first 12 months still, the purpose of this program is to collect accommodation information re: room nights voluntarily from operators throughout the Yukon.  TIA Yukon's consultant, Rob Dunbar-Edge is leading the program, visiting all Yukon operators and communicating the program elements and processes.

Canada Select - for the Yukon, this program is now being administered and managed by TIA Yukon.  2006 was a renewal year for operators already in the program.  2007 will be an inspection year where our Canada Select Advisor will be visiting properties early in the season to inspect participating and new properties.  Canada Select is a nation-wide, consumer-driven, accommodations standards program enabling operators to promote themselves as a CS star rated program - from 1-5 stars, where the number of stars represents both amenities and cleanliness.

Tourism Awareness - TIA Yukon strives to demonstrate the benefits tourism brings to the Yukon. In an effort to heighten the awareness of tourism to Yukoners, the Tourism Awareness Campaign was born.

The Tourism Awareness Campaign was devised by TIA Yukon and interested members as a platform to reach local Yukoners and provide them with a campaign that educates regarding the benefits and quality of life tourism brings to all of us. Representing The Tourism Industry - TIA Yukon is very active in lobbying all levels of government to include industry in decision-making and legislation that affects tourism development. TIA Yukon advocates that government enhance public support of tourism programs, tourism infrastructure, and product development.
