Tourism Awareness Week
Tourism Awareness Week 2008
On
behalf of the Yukon’s Tourism Industry, I would like to say thank you
to all the Yukoners and visitors that have experienced the exceptional
tourism products that our industry and our land have to offer.
The
tourism industry in the Yukon is our largest private sector employer
with 80% of all Yukon, private sector jobs somehow connected to tourism
and over $164 Million in revenues directly attributable to non-resident
tourism.
While it is true that tourism
creates jobs and generates taxes, just as importantly, Yukoners enjoy
tourism experiences as a ‘lifestyle’ – on a daily basis – and because
of this Yukoners are often the tourism industry’s best advocates. We
all take advantage of our beautiful campgrounds, eat in tourism-themed
restaurants, hike and care for our trails, and invite friends and
family to visit.
While TIA Yukon works
to ensure a healthy, sustainable and profitable industry for the
future, we are also critically aware of the need to nurture and support
those that deliver tourism – the People Resources of the Tourism
Industry. That is why Tourism Week, from June 2-8 is celebrating Yukon
Youth who have chosen careers in the tourism industry. In these pages,
we have highlighted youth from all sectors and regions of the Yukon
that have discovered, or are exploring, the potential of a career in
the industry.
We are also running our
popular Tourism Week Contest again with CKRW the Rush from June 2-8.
Call in and share your favorite Yukon tourism adventure and enter to
win great prizes generously donated by our membership – the Tourism
Industry – to you!
Thanks again to all
Yukoners for exploring and helping to sustain the Yukon for our
families and our visitors alike. Have a great summer season!
